What is the data source for my mailing list? What is the data collection methodology?
For Consumer Lists: The data for your mailing list comes from Acxiom's InfoBase, the most comprehensive collection of US consumer, business, and telephone data available from one source.

The unique combination of rich data from InfoBase - long recognized as the industry leader - and database management expertise from Acxiom, results in a list with maximum coverage and deliverability. What sets InfoBase apart from the competition is smarter architecture - the InfoBase database is simply built better. The following process takes place quarterly to ensure fresh and reliable data:

  • First, Acxiom gathers and integrates information from more than fifteen of the nation's top data sources.
  • Next, all potential InfoBase data undergoes a rigorous screening process by Acxiom's analytical and database teams.
  • Then, once the data is entered into the master InfoBase database, all records are multi-verified and ZIP+4 coded.
  • Finally, the addresses are cleaned through National Change of Address (NCOA) and Delivery Sequence Files (DSF) before going through Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and deceased suppressions.

Your consumer mailing list is sourced directly from a component of Acxiom's InfoBase called InfoBase List. InfoBase List is a consumer list product consisting of base names and address records combined with comprehensive InfoBase Consumer data, including key demographics, home ownership characteristics, purchasing behavior, and lifestyle data. With InfoBase List, marketers can reach more than 170 million individuals in over 100 million U.S. households nationwide. The end result is one of the largest multi-source databases in the world containing current demographic and lifestyle information on over 95% of U.S. households.

For Business Lists: The D&B Wholesale Business List is multi sourced. For example, records are sourced from yellow pages, credit inquiries, Internet, business registrations, payment experiences, public records, Secretary of State files, credit inquiries and more.

D&B uses every means at their disposal to identify new businesses entities from their many sources. Each new record as well as the maintenance records is subjected to:

  • Over 2,000 computer validations for inconsistencies to ensure the accuracy of their data, including addressing, telephone connectivity or other data elements on record.
  • The record maintenance process starts with verification of each record, each year.
  • Over 100 million calls per year are made to maintain the file.
  • Duplicate records are eliminated using D&B's sophisticated matching techniques.

Can I create mailing labels from the list?
Please click the link below for step-by-step instructions on creating printed mailing labels. We recommend that you download your list first into Excel format.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011269731033.aspx

What about consumers/businesses who have requested to be removed from mailing lists?
Consumer Lists: Every month Acxiom purges from their InfoBase file names that appear in the Do Not Call databases administered by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and State Attorney's General (SAG) for participating states.

Business Lists: If a privately owned company asks to be delisted, D&B will remove the business from their marketing file. There is no requirement to have Do-Not-Call type files in the business arena.

What is the accuracy rate of my list? What is the deliverability rate of my list?
Consumer Lists: The deliverability rate is guaranteed to be 94%. We typically see between 98-99% deliverability on residential lists.

Business Lists: While Dun & Bradstreet does their very best to keep the data fresh and the addresses as current as possible, sometimes mail pieces will be returned as undeliverable. Sometimes as much as 10% is returned due to problems unrelated to the data collection process.

Why might my list be undeliverable?
Consumer Lists: You may receive some returned mail because a person has moved within the past 3 weeks, they are in jail, or a provider has miscoded a file. Consumer lists do go through a rigorous cleansing process to ensure a high deliverability rate. See "What is the data source for my mailing list? What is the data collection methodology?" for more information.

Business Lists: Over 20% of businesses relocate each year.

  • Please note that not every business fills out a change of address form and if they do, it may not be correct
  • The USPS has strict rules to prevent mail being incorrectly forwarded to the wrong business address. Sometimes, these rules prevent the appropriate address changes and forwarding to be made.

What has Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) done to increase deliverability?
In addition to the data collection methodology, D&B periodically scrubs their list against:

  • USPS National Change of Address (NCOA) file.
  • Delivery Point Verification (DPV) is used by D&B to confirm that the Post Office has actually confirmed that they deliver mail to that particular address.
  • Delivery Sequence File (DSF) is used by D&B to confirm all of the delivery points in the United States, provided by the USPS.

TARGETING YOUR LIST

How do I select a geography?
First, identify the geographic region that you would like to target. The following are the available geographic targets as well as some guidelines for selecting:

STATE - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses from a particular state (e.g., anyone who lives in the state of Hawaii)

METROPOLITAN AREA (MSA) COMING SOON! - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses from a particular metropolitan area. The MSA is a county or group of counties defined by the US Census Bureau, which identifies urbanized areas including their surrounding suburbs. (e.g., anyone who lives in the Greater New York City area, NY)

COUNTY - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses from a particular county within a certain state (e.g., anyone who lives in Norfolk County, MA)

CITY - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses from a particular city. A city is defined as an aggregate of zip codes identifying an urban area (e.g., anyone who lives in Oakland, CA)

ZIP CODE - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses who share a particular zip code (e.g., anyone with 74820 as their zip code) SELECT FROM A LIST will allow you to narrow down your choice of zip codes by first specifying a state, and then selecting from the zip codes of that state. TYPE IN will allow you to enter in zip codes that have been pre-determined by you.

SCF - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses who share the same first three digits of their zip code (e.g., 76008 and 76043 have the same SCF) TYPE IN will allow you to enter in SCF's which have been pre-determined by you.

RADIUS - Select this option if you want to target people or businesses based on a radius around an address by following these simple steps:

  1. Select Radius around Address option and click Next.
  2. Enter the street address, city, state, and zip code for your radius search and click Next.
  3. A list of possible address matches will appear. Choose the correct address and click Next.
  4. A map will appear defaulting to a 3-mile radius around the address you specified. A box containing each of the zip codes within the radius will appear on the right. You may change the size of the radius by entering in a new distance and clicking Change Radius. You may remove all undesired zip codes from your search by highlighting the zip code(s) and clicking Remove. After youÂ’ve made your selections, click Next.
  5. You will then be instructed to define your target audience. Once this is completed, a real-time list count will be generated detailing the total number of available prospects based on the parameters you specified.

When I look at Zip Codes from Northeastern states that start with zero they only show up as 4 digits. How can I fix this?

  1. Highlight the column with Zip Codes in it by clicking on the letter above the column of Zip Codes.
  2. On the top toolbar click on "Format" then "Cells".
  3. Within the "Number" tab, highlight "Special" from the category field and highlight "Zip Code" and "OK". Zeros should appear in front of any Zip Code that previously had only 4 digits.
  4. Click "File" then "Save" to save the format changes.

How do I target consumers?
After you define your geography, the next step is to identify the type of consumers you would like to contact. The Targeting Criteria screen provides several demographic variables from which to choose including income, age, and marital status. The more criteria you select, the more precise your list will be.

How do I target businesses?
After you define your geography, the next step is to identify the type or size of business you are trying to contact. You can pull all businesses with a specific geography, certain types of businesses by SIC Code, or certain sizes of businesses by employee size, sales volume and/or sales growth.

What is Build Your Own?
Build Your Own is a way to create your own custom set of filters to our consumer and business databases. You will be able to choose the type of characteristic of interest and ranges of values. For example, for consumers you may wish to select only people in a specific age range or gender. For businesses you may wish to select only businesses in certain industries or size ranges. Value ranges within a characteristic are treated with OR logic (for example, you may select people who are 25 to 34 years old OR 35 to 44 years old). Different characteristics are treated with AND logic (for example 25 to 34 years old AND male).

Help! My available count is too low!
If your list count is lower than you expected, you may want to expand your geography and/or broaden your list criteria. For example, suppose you plan to target married couples with middle incomes in the San Diego market, defined by zip codes in that area. One option is to add neighboring zip codes. Another option is to change the geographic select to be the entire San Diego metropolitan area. If you prefer to broaden your list criteria, you could include additional income levels to increase your available count.

Help! My available count is too high!
There are two ways to shrink your list. The first is random selection: Suppose you plan on mailing 8,000 prospects this month, but the list selection process yielded 15,000 prospects. By entering in 8,000 in the Desired Order Size box on the Your Order screen, you will get 8,000 prospects randomly selected from the original 15,000. The other way to decrease a list count is to further narrow down your geographic area and/or your selection criteria.

Can I order just a portion of the entire list?
Yes. Simply enter your desired order quantity in the 'Desired Order Size' box, and a list of this size will be randomly selected from the entire available count.

MAILERS

How do I select a mailer?
Once you have selected your list criteria (type of prospects, industry, geography, type of list), you will receive your count on the Your Order screen. On this page, under Format Details, select the button that corresponds to the type of mailers you'd like to send to your prospects. Click Next to see what mailers are available for your chosen industry.

How do I customize my mailer?
Once you have selected a mailer, you will come to the Customize Your Mailer screen. Here, you will input your contact information as well as make any changes to the mailer text that you desire. In some cases, there will be text already there which you can overwrite. The green boxes to the right of each text box are there to guide you. Since each text box can only hold so many letters, the green box will let you know when you've reached the maximum length by first going to yellow and then red. If the box goes to red, this means you have entered in too many letters and will need to shorten your text. To see what your customized mailer looks like, click Next to go the View Mailer screen.

What are the green boxes on the Customize Your Mailer screen?
The green boxes to the right of each text box are there to guide you. Since each text box can only hold so many letters, the green box will let you know when you've reached the maximum length by first going to yellow and then red. If the box goes to red, this means you have entered in too many letters and will need to shorten your text. To get a better idea of how the green boxes work, experiment by entering in different lengths of text and seeing how this affects the green box.

What is the View Mailer screen?
This screen allows you to see your mailer with your customization elements. This is how the mailer would look if you sent it out today without any additional changes. To make changes, simply click Back to return to the Customize Your Mailer screen.

Why are the customization text entry lines separate?
This allows you to edit your mailer line-by-line, insuring that all of your customized text fits properly on the mailer.

What do you mean by usage terms? What's the difference between a one-time use of the list versus unlimited use?
A one-time use of the list means you may only use the list one time. With unlimited use, you may use the list as many times as you want for one year. After one year, you may continue marketing to anyone who responded to your campaign or who became a client of yours. Those individuals however who never responded to your campaign you may no longer contact. In order to contact those individuals after one year, you would need to re-order the list. We recommend you do this anyway because over the course of the year, the list will change; names currently on your list will have moved, some may now be deceased, while others may have asked not to be contacted. Fresh names will furthermore become available. To maximize the deliverability of your campaign, it's important that you use the freshest available list.

How will you know if I use the list more than once?
Included in every list we deliver to our clients is at least one extra name that the client does not pay for. This is called a seeded name. When a mail piece or phone call is made to that seeded name, we record the client responsible for the campaign. Therefore, if a client has ordered a list for a one-time use and the seeded name is contacted twice, at that point the client is in violation of the usage agreement and will become responsible for paying PageDNA the multi-use price for the list.

The purpose of a seeded name is to make sure our clients are using the lists we provide properly, and not for any illegal, hateful, nor privacy-infringing means.

How may I use the list? Are there any restrictions?
All clients are required under all circumstances to abide by the terms of the Data Usage Agreement.

How do I pay? Do you have to receive payment before processing the list?
PageDNA accepts Mastercard and Visa. After payment has been submitted, PageDNA sends a confirmation email with a tracking number. A second email will follow-up with your list data - usually within 2 hours and guaranteed within 24 hours.

Are there volume discounts if my company buys many lists?
Yes. If you plan to purchase a large quantity of lists, call us at 650-364-8900 x12 to set up a corporate account.
